LED monitors that look pretty from Samsung

Remember a couple of years ago when LCD TV’s were selling like crazy? Samsung had that wine glass design which really made theirs stand out. They were all over the retails stores. Now that that’s a classic, we’re now seeing their venture into the LED monitors for desktop computers. Have you seen these? They’re really attractive. Here’s a photo of what I’m talking about with Mitch Mauricio.

Oh, regarding the 2 contests, I’ll announce the winner from last week’s contest. Just need to clarify something with Samsung. =)

Nikon D7000 Hugyfot Housing Prototype

Logged into Facebook and saw this prototype underwater housing for the Nikon D7000 made by Hugyfot. It seems to come in the same curved design like all of Hugy’s housings. Sled mounted housing is a big deal — at least you get the entire camera in without having to worry if didn’t put it in right.

Attached you’ll find some CAD/CAD pictures of the new Hugyfot housing for the Nikon D7000.
The housing will be equipped with some new features besides the HugyCheck system (standard on all housings):

– sled mounting system that replaced the classic camera support
– fiber optic connection for fiber optic controlled TTL strobes
– dovetail mounting system for handles
– HDMI in/out for external monitor

We expect the first working prototypes to be ready early January 2011.

Samsung Philippines Official Statement on alleged piracy of 700 TSI employees

Copied Verbatim from Samsung PH PR

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Employees of Samsung Electronics Philippines Corp. (SEPCO), a division of Samsung Electronics, are facing charges of syndicated and large-scale illegal recruitment involving economic sabotage, estafa and theft filed by manpower agency Temps & Staffers Inc. (TSI). The charges stemmed from the alleged “piracy” of 700 of TSI’s employees by SEPCO.

SEPCO is engaged in the marketing and distribution of Samsung brand electronic products. It is not in the business of manpower recruitment of promo-merchandisers who are assigned to sell Samsung products to consumers as support to accredited Samsung dealers nationwide. SEPCO contracts third-party manpower agencies to supply the promo-merchandisers, which clearly constitutes no employer-employee relationship between SEPCO and the promo-merchandisers. At present, SEPCO engages the services of five (5) Filipino-owned manpower agencies to meet its requirements.

There is no truth to the allegation of “piracy”, as mentioned in newspaper articles. The contracts between TSI and its promo merchandisers is co-terminus with TSI’s contract with SEPCO. As early as June 13, 2010, TSI served termination notices to their promo-merchandisers effective June 30, 2010. Given this, the affected promo-merchandisers decided on their own whether to wait for a new job contract from TSI or seek employment elsewhere.

Samsung Electronics is committed to acting as a responsible corporate citizen in the Philippines. We conduct our operations in accordance with international labor standards and we maintain a rigorous compliance program.

Respect for our employees is one of our key business principles. We will provide them with our full legal support and assistance to clarify this matter.

Lori Baltazar’s gifts for me

Met up with sexiest food blogger Lori Baltazar (and equally sexy PR swashbucker Mark Parlade). Wasn’t expecting gifts, but Lori surprised me with a loot bag for the holidays. Although Lori hates Mark and I for wanting our steaks medium well, she and I pretty much agree when it comes to coffee. She gave me a small bag of beans to grind from Lamill (which I have almost finished), and a sample of their tea — with the most superb packaging ever. As topping to the wonderful gifts (literally), she included a President’s Choice ginder filled with vanilla and sugar to top my coffee. Lori, I use it every morning to top my latte and the flavor is just amazing! 5 star rating.

This tea wins the award for most creative (and geeky) copy:

Probing further, Lamill has really pushed my geek buttons as their copy is very consistently easy to digest with a slight tinge of geek:

At LAMILL we small batch roast all our beans on our own special order German Probat G60 commercial roasters. Not only are these the finest, state of the art machines, but it’s also cool to be able to say ‘German Probat G60’. We make the same investment in our staff, being sure to employ only most qualified and talented roasters. At LAMILL we understand how important roasting is to the final product. We don’t take any shortcuts… we don’t make any compromises. If a batch isn’t right, we take the time to do it over, even if it means missing the Lakers game. That’s what TIVO is for.

Thank you Lori for the gifts!
