The Atomic Bomb was developed faster than Duke Nukem Forever

Duke Nukem Forever

It’s been a decade and Duke Nukem Forever truly lives up to its name.

Duke Nukem Forever was announced in 1997. After several game engine changes and delays, a second trailer has finally been released. I graduated high school, finished college, finished my masters and am knee deep into my career. Finally, I MIGHT get to enjoy Duke Nukem Forever for the PC before I have grand children.

World affairs that have taken less time to develop than Duke Nukem Forever:

Pop Culture:

* The Beatles formed, released every single one of their albums and broke up. During this time they also toured the world several times.
* Led Zeppelin released 7 albums, 9 singles, and toured around the world, crossing international borders 27 times (not counting mainland Europe.)

Science & Technology:

* The Wright brothers designed and flew the first airplane.
* The theory of General Relativity.
* The United States’ entire program to put a man on the moon, from Kennedy’s challenge to the landing.

Wars:

* The American War for Independence
* The United States Civil War
* World War I
* The United State’s involvement in the Vietnam War.
* World War II and the entire Manhattan Project. Yes, even the complete development of the atomic bomb took less time.

Does the Nike+ kit really encourage you to stay fit?

Nike Plus Baby!

How apt for the holidays. A bought a Nike+ kit a few months ago about the same time I got the fatty nano. Inspired to lose weight and reinvigorate my athletic self (I used to be able to do a one mile run in 7 minutes – not bad) I set out on the adventure of jogging around the village park.

PhilMUG only had one agenda, and it was a kick ass Christmas raffle!

San San interviews Elbert Cuenca about PhilMUG

There were over 60+ prizes up for grabs and there were only about 30 of us who braved not going to the Microwarehouse sale the holiday traffic. Do the math and everyone goes home with two prizes each. Some even three!

Fiddling with G.ho.st — now your OS is online!

G.ho.st UI

If you own an ASUS eee, or even if you don’t — you may want to check out G.ho.st, a full web based operating system. Truth be told, this is the direction office tools are going with the prevalence of wireless connectivity all over the place. Well, take away the fact that the whole thing is accessible via a web browser and you’re left with an OS that slightly resembles the Windows Vista UI. But that’s not the point. Exciting development – we have a free operating system that can be accessed from any computer with Internet. There are some weird concepts too like a G.ho.st web Browser — why run a browser within another browser? But those are minor quandaries best reserved for another time.

Still, the Operating System is still in its Alpha stage but this is definitely a breakthrough as there is a proof of concept that a fully functioning operating system can be developed for online use FOR FREE. If you own an ASUS eee, this may be a great solution to your storage problems as the OS gives you 3GB worth of hard disk space. In the future, this OS can be a model for schools and other institutions that do not have a budget to purchase hundreds of licenses for Windows.

Oh wait, I just described Linux.

Download your free copy of Merlin Mannerisms

“I wish I had two copies of iCal… one to take a crap on and one to cover it up with.”
Merlin Mann, MacBreak Weekly #52

Im at a loss because I can’t introduce a topic that’s a tour bus wittier than I am. Download Merlin Mannerisms: daily quotes and sayings by Merlin Mann as a special Christmas gift this 2007 from TWiT.TV.

We’d like to thank Leo Laporte and the rest of MacBreak Weekly for making this PDF available for free, and due recognition should be given as well to Paul Stewart for the iCal version.

If you wish to receive a direct email link to the download, send an email to leo at leoville dot com with the subject “merlin” but the link above should do. This is probably the closest I get to having Leo Laporte reply to an email 😉
