Geeky Fashion: How to Get Rid of Eyebags from Long Nights

mineral_makeover.jpg

Okay so last night, before partying over to the Rock Ed Year II Concert, I had decided to meet up with Sharon and see for myself what the buzz was all about for that mineral makeup meet.

Umm not that I really wanted to go. I wanted to go shopping for clothes but as it was a payday weekend and the mob crowd was testament to that, I decided to join them for a few minutes. Okay, yeah I’m being defensive now.

Me and my big mouth. I asked about how I can get rid of my raccoon eyebags and Sophie Uy pulled me to the couch and did my eyes. I don’t know a thing about fashion, especially in the makeup niche but that thing they put on me is supposed to stick even though I go for a swim. Plus, it isn’t noticeable too (which was good because I didn’t want to go to a concert looking like K.I.S.S.).

Thank you for the mini makeover Sophie. More photos here.

Extreme Niche Blog: Let’s Learn Latin–?!

asterix-in-latin.jpg

Err okay maybe I do have a lot of time on my hands. I’ve been wanting to start this project for quite some time but I was debating on whether I would have enough content to fill this blog up. It’s a dead language you know, and only the ancient scholars of the past as well as the Vatican still speak this. If you want to take a lighter look at the language I tried to learn for four years back in high school, then do subscribe to this blog. I hope I can update it often. I’ve actually took the time to dust off my old text books and ancient scrolls.

The comic above is an excerpt from Asterix the Legionary but the text is in Latin. These are collectibles nowadays and I should have bought a few of these when I was in Rome several years ago.

A short history should suffice: I went to PAREF Southridge School for Boys and there were over 64 of us in the batch divided into two sections. We took up Latin twice a week, 40 minutes per session and it was hell. Which is why the tag “Latin killed the Ancient Romans, and now it’s killing me too” was very prominent and engraved in our hearts in the same way that Spartans were trained to kill.

So why am I doing this? I have absolutely no friggin reason. I just felt that it would be an interesting as well as humorous exercise to brush up on some of my mediocre (mediocritas, – tatis: n; in the middle, moderation – quite a far fetched meaning from what it means today) Latin skills. Note that I do not speak Latin. I can only translate. Speaking Latin is like … trying to resurrect the Betamax. [source]

I humbly present my Latin blog www.latin.jayveefernandez.com Ad astra per aspera! (to the stars through difficulties!)

Caylabne Bay Resort Shoot this Friday

There will be a shoot this Friday at the Caylabne Bay Resort. The subjects will include “surfing and bikini clad bodies” and the shots will be used for a press release. The invite goes out to bloggers who are photo enthusiasts and who want to hone their craft and gain exposure. If your shots are used for the press release, you will gain full credit to your site.

I actually do not know how many additional photographers they will need as they left the numbers open. Compared to the last shoot we did in Intramuros, this one will be a bit tight as it will be on an early morning Friday. There will be transportation for this event. The meeting time and place will be at 6:00AM at the Shell McKinley EDSA. The shoot will last till 12 noon. That’s enough time to file for a half day leave 😉

You can send me an email with your name mobile number so we can get in touch with you. 🙂

Movie Review: Mr. Bean’s Holiday

mr-bean-holiday-philippines.jpg

I’d like to invite everyone to come and watch Mr. Bean’s Holiday. It premieres today, May 30 2007 in the Philippines.

me-and-mr-bean.jpg

I was able to catch the first show of Mr. Bean’s Holiday. As I rarely do movie reviews, I’d like to mention that my motivations for doing so involve a fanatical attachment to Mr. Bean’s character as well as my “uncanny resemblance” to this stage persona when I feel like it.

This is perhaps one of the best examples of well-put product placements. Nokia is prevalent throughout the film as Bean and Stepan (Max Baldry) dial several numbers at three key points in the film with many people around the world answering. The signature Nokia ring tones are promiscuous. Bean also holds with him a Nokia 7370 (at least that is what it looks like). At one point in the film, Bean points to Sabine’s (Emma du Caunes) car tires and says in his signature voice the brand, “Dunlop.” Not to mention, throughout the movie, Bean carries with him a digital video recorder (I think its a Sony, but I could be wrong).

For those expecting a funnier and more engaging Bean compared to his first movie, you may be slightly disappointed. The movie takes the form of a road trip as Rowan Atkinson’s character, Mr. Bean, wins a vacation trip to the beach in Cannes. He encounters several adventures along the way and wrecks havoc to a movie set, allegedly kidnaps a a Cannes film festival critic and crosses with director Carson Clay, who is played by the Green Goblin himself, Willem Dafoe. Because Bean is constantly on the move, you do not feel the same character development which was very prevalent in the first movie where he is mistaken for a museum curator and lives with an American family. The pranks, slapstick, and embarrassments that make you cringe and laugh in every Bean movie aren’t as prevalent here as the first. But don’t get me wrong, it is still worth the laughs.
