Just finished Act I of Broken Age. I want to hug you, Tim Schafer!

Finished Act 1 of Broken Age last night. It needs to be said that this is Tim Schafer’s first point and click adventure game in 15 years which means to say that my last encounter with him in this familiar space was during my teenage years when Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle were kings of the adventure genre.

No spoilers — It really feels like Tim had to open the floodgates of ideas stocked up for the past 15 years and the effect is overwhelmingly joyful. What a rich universe he has created! It was only at the end of the first act that you get a sense of what Broken Age is all about. I’m so happy I backed this project on Kickstarter!

For those of you who didn’t back the game but want in on the action, you can pre-order the game. In its current state, the game is technically on beta but it’s as good as a retail version (played on my MacBook Air). The only issue I saw was that sometimes, when talking to characters at the edge of the screen, the subtitles also get misaligned. But that’s minor.
