It’s raffle time. Thanks to Microsoft! This is a big month — the guys behind Windows are making a big leap in rebranding themselves by shifting focus to DEVICES AND SERVICES and they’re starting this with the global launch of Windows 8 next week. This excites me because in the past, the OEM’s have always been the front liners of the Windows branding, putting Microsoft at the back seat with their software. But Q4 2012 marks Microsoft’s focus into the hardware space. If you take a look at their hardware track record, they did an amazing job with the XBOX and the XBOX 360 as well as the Kinect. The Zune, although defunct was a great device. Have you ever tried a Microsoft-branded keyboard and mouse? They’re fantastic. This year marks the start of that re-focus as they enter Windows 8 and computing on their Surface lineup.

But let’s backtrack a bit. Sure, the hardware is great but the overhauled Windows 8 is also as exciting. In addition to the brand new OS, Microsoft is also previewing the brand new Microsoft Office 2013 leveraging new technologies and input methods (such as the touch screen interface on the Surface tablets).

To celebrate the launch of MS Office 2013 Microsoft is giving away a a couple of things through the blog. I’ll be raffling off 5 limited edition Desktop Egg Speakers from Microsoft. These are small and portable (but loud!) desktop speakers that can be plugged into your laptop and charged via USB.

MECHANICS

The mechanics are really simple. We will be using RaffleCopter to manage the contest. You get raffle points for performing the actions stated below. The more points you get, the higher the chances of winning the speakers.

All you need to do is tell me what your favorite MS Office 2013 feature is through a tweet and the app will do the rest. That gives you 3 raffle points. Liking the Microsoft Philippines page and following their Twitter account also gets you points. At the end of the contest, we will be choosing a winner through a draw. That winner will only be eligible if the Tweet chosen was validated as a real feature of the new Microsoft product.

I’ll be discussing some of the new features of Microsoft Office 2013 here and on Twitter but if you want a detailed list, head on over to the Microsoft TechCenter or to thorough slideshow by InfoWorld. Better yet, why not download the Office ’13 demo for FREE?!
