Sony Xperia ion goes for PHP 29,990; Xperia neo L sells for PHP 12,450

OK so we haven’t written about Sony for a while. Mostly because most of the action is happening with their Playstation IP from E3. However, it’s glad to see that Sony Philippines is bringing in a wave of competitive Android phones to the local market, accentuated with the Sony Xperia neo L and the Xperia ion.

Pricing:

Sony Xperia neo L SRP PHP 12,450
Sony Xperia ion SRP PHP29,990

Sony Xperia ion

The odd thing about the high end Xperia ion is that it burns with a retail price of a high end phone yet by today’s standards, oddly ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Nonetheless, this should not matter to the everyday consumer as this downside is mitigated by its high quality cameras and huge 4.6-inch screen. It’s main camera can record 1080p quality videos while the front-facing camera does a decent 720p. The device, at most, is half-baked — nodding a resounding yes towards really good camera optics but bows down to the more powerful HTC One X’s and Samsung Galaxy S III’s in the market. But yes, it’s also cheaper.

Specs include:

Specs:

1.5GHz dual-core CPU, Adreno 220 GPU
1GB RAM, 13.2GB internal storage with microSD card
4.55-inch display
12MP main camera w/ 1080p video recording; 1.3MP front camera w/ 720p video recording
1900mAh lithium-polymer battery
Stock operating system is Android Gingerbread version 2.3

Sony Xperia neo L

Priced as a middle to entry level Android smartphone, the Sony Xperia neo L is similar to its colleague, the Xperia ion because it takes an odd stab at the OS vis-a-vis feature set. While the more powerful ion comes with a dual core processor and Android 2.3, the neo L comes with a waker 1GHz processor but already ships with the new Android ICS platform.

Specs:

1GHz Scorpion CPU; Adreno 205 GPU
512MB RAM, 1GB internal storage with microSD card slot up to 32GB
4-inch display (480 x 854 resolution)
5MP camera with 720 video recording and front-facing VGA camera
1500mAh lithium-polymer battery
Android ICS OS v4.0
