Unboxing The Witcher II: Assassins of Kings Premium Edition

The wait is over. I would have bought the regular “el cheapo” edition but Datablitz didn’t have it. They only had the Premium Edition on sale so what the heck.

I’m a huge fan of ‘The Witcher’ franchise. I was introduced to the game back in 2007 but only had the chance to play during a Steam sale last year because my computer back in ’07 was crappy. At USD $5.00 it was a real bargain. This is the sequel. The Witcher is a complete fantasy franchise based on the books by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. They even have a TV series.

This is one of the more “fun” premium packages because it comes with two sets of foldable papercrafts of characters within the world, including Geralt of Rivia!.

The package comes with a lot of useless fanfare such as this sealed royal pamphlet containing a bestiary of creatures. It also comes with a map and a “cursed coin” which is nothing more than a trying hard paperweight.

Of course, you also have the main DVD with the bonus soundtrack and making of the game.

Truth is, the only useful thing in the box is the paper craft and the developer diary in the bonus DVD but I’m a nut for this franchise so there you go. Here you have a small team of developers out to create something that the more mainstream publishers (i.e. Activision, EA) are afraid to do: delve in the controversial topics of racism, scandals, and relative good.

Wow! I’ve been hearing a lot about this game!
At 2.3k, this is quite cheaper than other games’ premium/collectors edition (SC2’s collectors’ ed is at 5k but it comes with a shirt, a USB flashdrive, and a dogtag).
Sir Jayvee, may I ask if this game has any multiplayer features whatsoever?

Thanks!

Just got my copy a couple of hours ago. It’s sure is a neat package! =)

I can’t really say the same regarding the other stuff in the package. They are there to specifically draw you further into the world by having you actually have a piece of the in-game environment. Sure they might not be utilitarian in nature, but they sure server their purpose. =)

@Messie : The “Premium Edition” is cheaper than Starcraft 2’s because IT IS actually the Standard Edition for The Witcher 2. There is also another package called the “Collector’s Edition” that actually contains a hardbound artbook, a Geralt’s head statue, a set of dice (to play dice poker with, as in the game), a deck of playing cards, and couple more stuff, all within a huge box with the Witcher medallion printed on the box. Not sure though if DataBlitz will sell the Collector’s Ed.

Aa for a multiplayer component, sad to say, it does not have one. Since it is an RPG that just focuses on 1 character, usually it’s just a single player experience.

PS. I’m pretty sure its “Geralt” and not “Garrett” 😉
