O Handpresso, Thou Art Glorious!

Portable espresso, anywhere.

This is the unboxing of the Handpresso, a portable solution to making espresso absolutely anywhere, without the need for electricity. This particular ‘Handpresso Wild’ package comes with the complete outdoor set, perfect for coffee lovers who also display nomadic tendencies. For purposes of convenience I bought the model that uses E.S.E. pods (Easy Serving Espresso) rather than the one that uses ground beans.

The outdoor carrying case comes with a 300ml thermos, 2 ‘Handpresso’ napkins, and four plastic espresso cups apart from the actual E.S.E Wild Handpresso unit. The case unzips to a three layers of mesh so you can store E.S.E. pods, sweetener, and other effects.

The Handpresso also comes with a spare o-ring. Simply put, the most important ingredient to a good cup of espresso is pressure. The Handpresso produces 16 bar of pressure through the hand pump mechanism on one end, and by applying hot water to an E.S.E pod, you can extract the heart of a good cup of coffee — espresso!

I also bought a Bonjour portable milk frother for USD $10.00. The frother is powered by 2 AA batteries and can help you make a good cup of cappuccino in the oddest places.

The Handpresso was on sale at Amazon for USD $180.00 which includes the entire picnic set. Regular price is USD $220.00.

Many thanks to my dive buddies, Wowie and Jan for helping me choose this fantastic product. There’s nothing like a strong cup of espresso right after a dive to re-orient you with the world.

the handpresso i got uses ESE pods but you can also get the version that uses regular coffee ground. an espresso maker is still better, but this makes decent espresso, including crema!

How good is the thermo-insulated flask at keeping water hot enough to make espresso? And how long before it’s cooled down too much to make espresso successfully? I love the size of the flastk–10oz is perfect!

I picked up the Handpresso Wild ESE on woot recently for $45–shipped. I use Lavazza pods with it, and must say that I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the espresso. I’ve found the combination that makes my shots turn out just right. =) And I get a workout–though very brief–out of it, too!
