“Love looks through a telescope; Envii, through a microscope.†– Josh Billings
Hey folks, I’m back and posting between the sniffles. My seasonal flu is spot on with the weather change. Because of this I haven’t really had the time to fiddle with something that came through the mail – the Verzio Envii, which is Verzio’s first Windows Mobile 6 handheld. First saw this little thing at the Verzio store in Bonifacio High Street and lookie here – there’s finally one in the mail.
I’ve been out of the loop with the pricing for Windows Mobile devices. The Envii costs P29,900.00 which isn’t exactly cheap but isn’t too expensive either. The P30k mark seems to be the price-point for most Windows Mobile devices.
Here is a rundown of the features you get for that price:
Marvell PXA270 Processor 624MHZ
Bluetooth
IrDA Connectivity (OMG this was surprising!)
SRS WOW HD Surround Sound
FM Radio Tuner
LED Strobe Flash with 2.0MP camera
miniSD expansion
HSDPA Connectivity
802.11g WLAN
Flick Dynamic Menu (ala HTC Touch)
I was pretty surprised with the inclusion of IrDA connectivity, a technology that was phased out by Bluetooth many months ago. But this is definitely a nostalgic approach as Asian countries still make use of IrDA in some applications.
I had to re-download Missing Sync v4 for the Macintosh. Back in the day I had v3 which was a complementary copy for review from Mark/Space. Turns out that with the arrival of Windows Mobile 6, Missing Sync’s upgrade now costs something, and I doubt the 14 day trial is enough.
On the bright side, I can go back to beta testing PPC games for Astraware. 🙂
