Where are the car bloggers?

And a voice cries out from the Web 2.0 wilderness .. “Where are the auto enthusiast bloggers?”

Technology, entertainment, politics, religion, fashion, pets, and even support groups — we’ve got them niches covered in the Philippine blogosphere. Now I thought we got them all covered, but I had an epiphany a few days ago after posting this particular press event on Blog and Soul.

There were some who were interested to attend but attending an automobile press conference did not spike the same interest in terms of response as say, a technology or food event. This is funny too because we have a huge online motorcycle community as well as a number of Vespa bloggers. More interestingly too that Filipinos are all hot about cars and car parts. Are there no dedicated car bloggers around? And if there are, why aren’t they well known as compared to the traditional media equivalent as C!, Evo, Tech and Tuner and Top Gear?

Hi Jayvee, good to see you at mag:net last Sat.
I’m sure the car bloggers are out there somewhere. We have a huge online car community din naman plus we have car specific forums sprouting up too.

I know one who has lived and breathed cars all his life. He can write as well. I’ve been convincing him to do some blogging but he seems to have trouble getting out of his call center job. Tsk tsk, my super uber inner gut tells me he could do this sans the fact that he’s my bro.

MITSUBISHI GRANDIS (test drive)

A month ago, i had the opportunity to test drive the new Mitsubishi Grandis (4th-Gen Space Wagon) and volunteered to be Motorplaza-Baguio’s chaperone for errands by driving for them around Baguio. The 2.4 MIVEC engine is not exactly for the 2fast, 2furious wannabe but delivers ample performance and strengthens it on a full pack of 7 adults with the 4 speed (only!) sportronic transmission. No, i did not get the chance to detonate the dual SRS airbags, but the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) was able to steer this MPV to safety as a kid chasing the basketball ran towards the street i was driving to. The suspension is stable, not too much with sponginess with the coil springs and just right close to that of a sports car! The leather interior is a sight and touch to behold and that holds true for the dual airconditioning. The audio system is sufficient enough but audio enthusiasts will crave for a more comprehensive setup and perhaps a dvd player- since the Grandis SHOULD be for everyone. I only wish that the Grandis would have a more home-based design- and we should see that soon since Mitsubishi is now back in the hands of the japanese designers to continue its “dyna wedge” design. But for now, the Grandis is a terrific MPV at a price of a reasonable mid-size sedan (read: Galant 240M, Accord, Camry). It holds as a worthy replacement of my aging 1997 2nd-Gen Space Wagon A/T. Until i can get P1.5M!

hello, im ian, the brother of celeste. yes, i’m the one she was talking about and she gave links to startup and will do so… thanks

For the longest time I’ve been contemplating on the idea of starting a blog about the local car scene. After all, I’ve been blogging about it as a category for my personal blog. I’m around car events and people more than anything, but the ability to update regularly is still preventing me from starting THE blog.

The local car scene is swamped with forum-type sites which provide news and information effectively, but in a very unorganized manner. And, like in all forums there are still others who simply choose not to participate and just read – lurkers. IMO, these are your would-be blog readers.
